Check the Color and Consistency

Look at the Level
When checking the oil, also make sure to check the level. Your dipstick usually has indicators showing the oil level and will accurately inform you what you should do. Low oil levels could impact the engine and lead to catastrophic failure. If the oil light comes on, pull over immediately and check your oil.
